Another Great Day for the Portsmouth Series

Our third in the current season series of Portsmouth Club Competitions was held on Saturday 12 January and was another great success with Peter Bond presiding over affairs as Judge. Entries for the competition were snapped up as soon as the event was published and 34 archers took part. The event saw the return to our club of Paul Bond who still holds a Stafford County Record dating back to 1994. We hadn’t got a recent shot of him so we thought the picture above would cause appropriate embarrassment – or maybe not. Paul on this occasion shot a new Club Record of 573 in the Gents Recurve. Leigh Masters also set a new record in the Gents Flatbow with a score of 410, beating his old Club Record of 363. Vaughan Tucker set a new record in the Gents Traditional Recurve with 409 and Robyn Stevens (welcome back home) set a Ladies Senior Flatbow record of 251 (beating her old record of 227 as a junior). Our Records Officers also have to admit to missing a Club Record set by Callum Howes in the Gents under 12s recurve in the December Shoot when he scored 306. A few personal bests were also achieved and Portsmouth Badges are awaiting claims. Well done to you all. We must not however forget that the day was not just about high scores. Archery is for enjoyment as much as winning, and a great day was had by all – except the grumpy ones!

Beryl proudly shows off her trophy.

NAC performed well again in the Targetcraft 6th Open Portsmouth Tournament at Rothwell on the 2nd December.

In the single rounds – David Quemby received a bronze for the Gents Compound, Christine Gibson a Silver in the Ladies Recurve, whilst Beryl Tabberner achieved a Gold and Trophy in the Ladies Barebow. David Quemby and Pamela Joseph received a silver in the couples awards, whilst NAC achieved a bronze in the Team section.

In the Double Rounds – Mick Lovell and Christine Gibson came second in the Gents and Ladies Recurve rounds respectively. Steve and Christine Gibson went on to receive Golds in the Triple Recurve Rounds. Christine also set a new county record in the triple round (along with club records for double and triple).

Another good day for our club.

Records Update

Several new records have been set since our last update and can be viewed on our Records Page. In the Club’s Portsmouth Series on 8th December new records were set by Vaughan Tucker (Gents Trad. recurve) with a score of 327, Tina King (Ladies Barebow) with 329, and Deaglan Rooney (Junior Gents u 14 Flatbow) with 209. Elsewhere – Christine Gibson has snatched the Ladies’ Portsmouth recurve records in the single,  double and triple rounds, grabbing a triple county record of 1589 in the process. Christine is also our first lady to achieve a 550 Portsmouth badge, with a  score of 558 on 13th December at John Ashby. Paul Hyde has also set records for the Bray II single and double rounds with 259 and 519. Well done to you all.

A Great Weekend for NAC

Not only was Saturday 10th November a full event for the first of the 2012-13 Winter Portsmouth series, with no less than 34 archers participating, plus other archers shooting at Carlsberg; BUT on Sunday 11th November eleven NAC members competed in the Wellingborough Open Archery Club Indoor Open competition. Seven medals were claimed by the club in the single rounds and others in multiple rounds. In the team results NAC came second, being beaten by WOAC. It was great to see two of our juniors, Jacob and Lizzie taking part and bringing away some of the metal in the process. All in all a very busy and great weekend for the club.

There’s a Robin Hood Panto

Oh no there’s not – oh yes there is

Well there is. Group Eight Theatre Company at Hackleton are holding their annual Panto at the Dudley Winterbottom Memorial Hall this year on Thursday 6th, 7th and 8th December (curtain up at 7.45pm). And it’s Robin Hood. Tickets are £6 for adults and £4 for concessions. If we go as a reasonable sized group we may  be able to negotiate a reduced price and Mick from the Group suggests we go dressed up in Robin Hood garb. David and Heather have watched the group’s performances before and have to say they are good and funny. Just the job for silly archers.

There is a bar at the venue and a splendid time is guaranteed for all. The theatre is on Facebook at
http://www.facebook.co/groupeighttheatrecompany

If you wish to go could you let David and Heather know as soon as possible so they can reserve tickets. We will need the money closer the time, but at least a week before the performance. We intend to go for the Friday performance.
