Despite strong winds in the morning and torrential rain in the afternoon, archers were not daunted at the NAC Open Nationals Tournament held at Sywell Range on Saturday 23rd August. Although shooting conditions were pretty bad all day, shooters wore smiles throughout and a great day was had. Eight county clubs were represented at the event and we are sure the day will be remembered by most, but not really for the reasons we would usually like. Results have been published here . Hollowell Steam Rally Have a Go, 2015
This years Hollowell Steam Rally which took place over the first weekend in July went really well and the picture above shows some, but not all of the volunteers who helped in some way over the 3 day festival. Not all volunteers were NAC members, some were family and friends so we thank them all for whatever input they had.
So it’s a big thank you to those who met over at Sywell to load up and take all of our equipment to Hollowell on the Friday morning.
At least 3 families took the option to stay over the whole of the weekend in caravans so I dread to think what they all got up to once the public disappeared.
On the Saturday the weather was fantastic and we did a lot of business. Sunday started really nice but later in the day we had some rain which soaked everything just in time for us to pack up everything!!
Overall the taking were good and will be shown within our accounts and it’s opportunities like this that help us provide the equipment we desperately need for a growing club such as ours.
I will place a few picture within our gallery section of our website but not to many this year as most years tend to look the same anyway.

Lizzie Brings Back Gold From Edinburgh
When NAC archer Lizzie Cantopher greeted members at the club shooting session on Tuesday this week, she was all smiles. Quite right so, after returning with six medals, a glass plaque and a cup from
the World Archery Commonwealth Championships for Europe Tournament held in Edinburgh on the 4th and 5th July . Lizzie, representing England, came third in the Open Ladies Recurve, and when shooting as part of the team event, England came first. This was equalled in the Mixed Team shoot, but Lizzie narrowly missed a bronze in the head-to-head. To top it all Lizzie scored a six gold end in the FITA 720 round and (subject to Dean’s scrutiny!) broke a county record. Fantastic shooting and well done. And all this in miserable wet Scottish weather. Lizzie says all NAC members should be encouraged by her efforts, and is quick to point out that every archer has the potential to be a champ. NCAS – Dawn till Dusk Archery Challenge in memory of Chris Mason

Farewell Vaughan
This week we heard the sad news of the sudden death of one of our members, Vaughan Tucker. Vaughan joined NAC around 2012 having visited us on several occasions as a member of Shenley And Loughton Toxophilists (SALT). Vaughan was born in 1957 and hailed from New Zealand. He came to the UK in 1985. He worked with newspapers most of his life and loved narrowboats as well as archery. Vaughan also wrote four books. At NAC he was a regular shooter and held club records with his horsebow in the Warwick and Portsmouth Rounds. Vaughan always seemed very laid back and quiet, whilst his dry humour was well enjoyed. He died suddenly on the 15th March. He will be sadly missed by all at NAC.
Sidney Cato Memorial Series – Round 1 – 6th June 2015
The new outdoor Sidney Cato Memorial Series of shoots kicked off on Saturday 6th June at Sywell. The day was quite warm, but very gusty – which made shooting interesting. Although entrants were slightly down on the usual numbers, due to various commitments elsewhere, the day was a great success with what appears to be at least a couple of club records being set. For some, this was their first outdoor competition and it was great to see participants taking brave steps forward at the longer distances. Well done. These are the results.
